This staple of The Fab Four's early live shows indulged their love of R&B, as it was originally a B-side for The Shirelles. Additionally, the tune gave the boys from Liverpool a chance to shine some of the spotlight on their drummer. Early band drummer Pete Best sang the song live until August 1962, when he was fired from the group. With the shift in lineup, the song could easily have fallen by the wayside, but fortunately, incoming Ringo Starr had a knack for singing as well, and took over vocal duties on the song during The Beatles' 1964 tour through North America And since it was such an honest cover version, the band was able to lay it down in the recording studio in just one take. The dynamic (save for Ringo on lead vocals) was as customary as it got- Paul McCartney played bass, John Lennon took on rhythm guitar while George Harrison covered the lead.
